Storming the Sazerac at New Orleans' Hotel Roosevelt

Every so often, I get to dork out in a major way and indulge my history hysteria, even on minor assignments like this post about an event at the venerable Hotel Roosevelt New Orleans.

Last Friday, ladies were invited to "Storm the Sazerac," in a commemoration of an event 60 years earlier when New Orleans women took over the famous hotel bar in a bid to be treated equally with men. You see, before then, women were only allowed in and served one day of the year: Mardi Gras. Since the first storming, however, they have been allowed access and service year-round. Now that's something worth standing up for.
